There’s not a lot to see, but it’s known for its colourful historical murals by local artists and the Naval and Heritage Museum traces the town’s long naval history. CAWDOR CASTLE

The 14th Century home of the Thanes of Cawdor is reputedly Macbeth's castle and the site of the murder of Duncan and remains the home of the Cawdor family to this day. Today it is considered to be one of the most romantic stately homes in the Highlands with its fine collection of rare tapestries, portraits, and furniture and lovely gardens and grounds. Make sure to not miss the sail in and out of Invergordon. This way you can catch a beautiful glimpse of the Scottish hills, local town, oil industry and some wildlife. Bottlenose dolphin and harbour porpoise can sometimes be spotted between the port and the sea. You might alway want to watch out for Eurasian otters and harbour seals.

The castle was robbed by the MacDonald clan of the Western Isles and then destroyed during the first Jacobite Rising in 1692. In 2023 it was announced that Invergordon had been chosen as a green port. This means there will be extra investment and opportunities relating to renewable energy projects for the area. There is no cover or seating in this area or the coach park.

Inverness & Cawdor Castle Tour (with Fort George) from Invergordon Cruise Port

Invergordon Cruise Port is not solely used as a cruise ship port. It is also a busy industrial area supporting oil and gas energy and now working more and more with renewable energy. In 2024 there are 118 cruise ships booked in to visit starting on the 3rd of April and ending in mid-October. The largest ship this year is MSC Prescioza with 4,000 guests and 1300 crew.

You can find a couple of ATM’s in town to get local cash from. However, please know that debit and creditcard are accepted at most places. Some shops might even take euros or US dollar at a not so convenient exchange rate. The post office on High Street is also able to exchange some small amounts of currency.

St. Andrew’s Cathedral, also known as Inverness Cathedral, is our next destination - a beautiful cathedral church dating back to 1869 located near the centre of Inverness. The Anglican Cathedral is the most northerly in the UK, and is an excellent example of local architecture and the Gothic style. Take some time to admire the beautiful stained glass windows and intricately carved stonework. Dalmore Distillery, established 1839, sits prettily on the shore of the Cromarty Firth, only a couple of miles from Invergordon. Mackenzies bought it in 1867 and as a result Dalmore began using the Mackenzie emblem and motto. So the bottles now carry the instantly recognisable 12-pointed Royal Stag and the perfect motto for a scotch whisky, Luceo non Uro meaning “I Shine not Burn!

There is a tourist information booth available on the dock. In the first few hours after the arrival of your ship there will be a couple of very helpful staff member helping you on your way. If you have any questions about your day ashore and how to go about things, make sure that make a stop here to get the full information. At the information booth you can also pick up a brochure and any maps you might need.
